The mission of Kivunim is to learn how to take a peaceful approach to the conflicts in today's society, and it suggests a world future that is based on mutual understanding and respect. There are always many sides to a story, and by gaining a global wisdom we as a Kivunim body can help positively contribute to the beautiful human race.
We will be going on 5 2-week international trips throughout the year: 2 weeks in Bulgaria, Macedonia, Greece/2 weeks in Morocco/2 weeks in India/2 weeks in Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary/AND 2 weeks in Turkey and Spain. Like I said my home base is in Jerusalem at a lovely dwelling called Beit Shmuel (which is basically like a college dorm!). So we will have daily classes there when we are home. We go on international trips about every 5-6 weeks. We also have a weekly social responsibility volunteering project while in Israel—I will be choosing my project at orientation (which is next week already), so I will let you know what I choose! Shabbat (the Jewish day of rest from Friday @ sundown- Saturday @ sundown) is very unique at Kivunim. I am excited to try new traditions, and strengthen old ones while observing Shabbat. To me, next year is all about learning & opening up to the world, not being afraid to try new things, and giving back as much as possible to the community around me!
Follow my travels on this blog, and please feel free to ask questions/comment/etc.!
I officially leave on Monday, September 30, 2013!! I will not see the American terrain again until June 2nd...oh my...I am ready...GENNA MEETS WORLD.
Check back on here for an update after my orientation October 10th. We are starting in the Negev Desert in Israel so we can walk in the steps of our forefathers. We will be hiking across many sand dunes and will see the sunrise atop Mt. Masada, learning about all kinds of things, meeting all kinds of people, camping out in a Bedouin tent, having a meaningful Shabbat, floating in the Dead Sea, eating...everything! Trust me, you'll want to read about this experience!
